this is beautiful! i want to cram as many apples in this as possible, is it possible to do a layer or two of apples along the bottom of the pie before i start making the rose?
I am sorry I didn't see your comment before Thanksgiving, but I would definitely give the extra layer a try. I have noticed that if you saute the apples a little before, they become smaller and more flexible allowing you to fit more. Although you might want to prebake the crust for a little bit extra, so the apples don't end up becoming extra mushy.
