I started Blueberry Octopie in the middle of my college career after realizing I didn't have any hobbies, and spent all of my time pursuing academics. I have always had a scientific mind, and a love of learning, but I often neglected life outside of my plans for the future. Starting a food blog was my way of bringing myself back down to earth. After all, I have to eat, so it didn't seem that counterproductive against my academic, and career goals.

For those of you confused about the name, this blog was started spur of the moment. I wanted a name that would remind me to live a little. Naming my blog Blueberry Octopie was a way of making sure I didn't take myself too seriously. To this day, it is a constant reminder to live in the moment and keep a smile on my face.

My love affair with the art of food snuck up on me when I was least expecting it. As my schooling progressed, posting to Blueberry Octopie no longer seemed liked a chore, and I began to thoroughly enjoy it. I immersed myself in the world of food and let my creativity run wild. Before I knew it I was putting off research projects to pursue new recipe ideas. I realized I was looking forward to my next recipe more than my prospective future in the Biotechnology industry.

This realization scared me, because it changed everything about how I lived my life. The structure and planning I had organized my future with started to collapse. For the first time I felt utterly lost, but I also finally felt like I was my own person. Fear is a wonderful motivator, and thus I decided to completely dive into this new world I had created for myself. I used my Biotechnology major to enroll in some of UC Davis's Viticulture and Enology classes, combining my love of science and food through the art of fermentation.

Now I am dabbling in food writing and working as a winemaking intern. Join me as I immerse myself in the art of food and fermentation, exploring the world one harvest at a time.
